A Calm Home for Menopause

During menopause, it's worth establishing a calm and supportive environment to find solace and relax. Here are some tips to help you transform your home into a serene sanctuary.

A Calm Home for Menopause

Embrace Soothing Colours: The colours we chose for our homes have a powerful impact on our emotions and overall wellbeing. Opt for a soothing colour palette that promotes relaxation and tranquillity. Soft blues, gentle greens, and warm neutrals like beige or taupe are excellent choices to help reduce anxiety and promote a sense of serenity.

Declutter and Organise: When we are surrounded by clutter we feel stressed and overwhelmed. So start with one room at a time, sorting through items and donating or discarding what you no longer need to simplifying your living spaces.

Create Comfortable Spaces: Menopause can bring about physical discomfort, such as hot flushes and night sweats. Ensure your home provides ample comfort to help and invest in breathable bedding, such as cotton sheets and lightweight blankets.

Incorporate Natural Elements: Connecting with nature calms the mind and body, so bring the outdoors in. Integrate natural elements into your home décor to evoke a sense of tranquillity: houseplants to purify the air and natural materials, like wood, stone, or seashells, as decorative accents.

Manage Temperature and Lighting: You'll know only too well how your temperature fluctuates one minute to the next. A bedside fan might be the lifesaver you need (it was for me, pre-HRT); while dimmable or warm-toned lights can ease symptoms such as headaches or irritability.

Prioritise Sleep: Create a sleep-friendly environment by making your bedroom a tranquil sanctuary. Keep your room cool, well-ventilated and free from distractions and use blackout curtains or a sleep mask to ensure darkness during the night. Establishing a relaxing bedtime routine and avoiding electronic devices before bed improve sleep quality too.

Establish Relaxation Zones: Designate specific areas in your home for relaxation and self-care. Create a cosy reading nook with a comfortable chair and soft lighting or set up a calming corner with scented candles and essential oils for moments of deep relaxation. This way, you'll prioritise self-care and find solace during times of stress.
